About David Phillips

About

In 1995 I graduated from De Montfort University, Leicester, with a BA Hons
in Fine Art. I had been a mechanic for 25 years and although I had been drawing
and painting in my spare time, my degree studies started my passion for
focusing on my art and developing my techniques. Now I am retired, I can devote
a lot more time to my art and enjoy creating challenging work.

I have been a member of the Lincolnshire Artists Society for 20 years. My
work is mainly figurative, with elements of abstraction in some pieces. My work
is influenced by my life experiences and my interest in German expressionism,
American artists such as Grant Wood and Edward Hopper, and British artist
Stanley Spencer.

My portraiture work is mainly within the mediums of oil paint and charcoal.
I regularly receive commissions and have produced artwork for individuals and
establishments from all over the UK, including illustrations for a book of
short stories.
